Sohar institute raises fund to help Al Noor Association for Blind
MUSCAT: Sohar Institute for Music & Arts celebrated the 48th National Day of Oman recently together with Al Noor Association for the Blind in Sohar by organising a cultural show titled “Natya Nivedhanam” choreographed and directed by Githa Ravishannkhar, a well - known dancer and guru.
The Institute raised OMR5,700 to help Al Noor Association for the Blind.
Welcome speech
Through such programmes in the last 12 years, Githa Ravishannkhar has so far raised over OMR91,000 to help several voluntary associations in Oman, Ravishannkhar said in his welcome speech.
He also thanked the promoters of Sohar Steel Group for continuing to support the efforts of Githa every year.
The programme started with the melodious rendering of Carnatic and Hindustani Music. The audience very well appreciated the songs “Sri Rama Jayam” and “Siva Siva”. Being the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, his favourite song of “Vaishnava Janato” was sung as a show of respect to the great leader which was also well received and applauded.
Cultural programme
The dances part of the programme commenced with Ranga Devata Stuti by small children and included many other dances like Sri Mahaganapathim, Kauthuvam, Thodaya Mangalam, Sabdham etc. The advanced level dances of Jathiswaram, Sankara Srigiri, Thillana and Sri Ramachandra Kripalu Bhajamana kept the audience spellbound.
The programme which was very well attended was presided over by Neelima Vyas, the Guest of Honour. She congratulated the children, other participants and the organisers for producing a memorable performance.
The cheques were received by Mohamed Ismail Al Balushi, the chairman of the Administrative Council of the Al Noor Association for the Blind in Sohar who thanked Sohar Institute for Music & Arts for regularly helping them.
