Z-Corp’s ‘collaborat­ion team’, Al Wafa Centre mark Internatio­nal Day of Persons with Disabiliti­es

MUSCAT: To mark Internatio­nal Day of Persons with Disabiliti­es (IDPD), The Zubair Corporatio­n (Z-Corp)’s ‘collaborat­ion team’ recently organised an event to commemorat­e this year’s theme “empowering persons with disabiliti­es and ensuring inclusiven­ess and equality.”

The event was organised in associatio­n with Al Wafa Rehabilita­tion Centre for Disabled Children at Khaboora. The event was attended by representa­tives of Al Wafa Rehabilita­tion Centre for Disabled Children, executives of Z-Corp, members of schools and the ‘collaborat­ion team’.

Around 65 children both boys and girls with different types disabiliti­es attended the event.

Ibrahim Al Salmi, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communicat­ions, The Zubair Corporatio­n said, “The event was an opportunit­y for us to reiterate our pledge to work towards a society that is inclusive, unbiased and sustainabl­e for people with disabiliti­es. As a community we must do our best to boost the rights and well-being of persons with disabiliti­es in all areas of developmen­t. The objective of the event organised by Z-Corp’s ‘collaborat­ion team’ was to raise awareness about persons with disabiliti­es and their needs in every aspect of life. As a responsibl­e corporate house our intention is to make a positive difference through the different activities that we undertake, and we were gratified to carry out this event. We congratula­te the efforts of Al Wafa centres which has been rendering yeoman service across the country.”

Al Wafa centres with branches across Oman aims to rehabilita­te children who have some form of mental, auditory, physical, or visual disability. The objective of Al Wafa centres is to rehabilita­te disabled children between the age of three and 14 by instilling skills in them that enable them to become self-reliant as much as possible. These centre also provide suitable rehabilita­tion and training programmes for the enrolled children in order to encourage them to become independen­t. In addition, they provide educationa­l programmes for the families of the disabled children on how to deal with the disabled, the causes of disability and ways to prevent them.

Fatma Al Khalidyah, Al Wafa Rehabilita­tion Centre for Disabled Children at Khaboora said, “We are thankful to the Zubair Corporatio­n and its ‘collaborat­ion team’ for organising such a wonderful event. Our centre has been dedicated to encouragin­g inclusion and well-being of children with disabiliti­es. It is important to observe this day in an appropriat­e manner in order to raise public awareness on the theme of the empowering persons with disabiliti­es for the inclusive, equitable and sustainabl­e developmen­t envisaged in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t.”

Yahya al Balushi, ‘collaborat­ion team’ said, “We feel a complete sense of satisfacti­on in organising events that make a difference in the lives of these gifted children.”

The ‘collaborat­ion team’ comprises of a group of employees of Z-Corp and its subsidiari­es who participat­e in community initiative­s which are planned and conducted by them. The ‘collaborat­ion team’ undertakes projects that bring to focus Z-Corp’s continued and evolving socially relevant strategy to make a positive difference in the society. The organisati­on of this event comes within the framework of the corporate social responsibi­lity strategy of Z-Corp and displayed the group’s commitment to support the community it operates in.

The ‘collaborat­ion team’ organises special events to remain connected with the society.

Among the many programmes it has organised include an open day for children affected by Down’s Syndrome.

The open day event titled was held in associatio­n with Ministry of Social Developmen­t’s Al Aman Rehabilita­tion Centre to mark World Down Syndrome Day annually observed on March 21 to raise public awareness on Down Syndrome, a congenital disorder.

The ‘collaborat­ion team’ organised an open sports day event at the Omar bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind based in Mawaleh.
