Vehicle recalls help make roads safer

MUSCAT: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) organised yesterday a seminar on ‘vehicle recall and its role in road safety’ at Grand Millennium hotel Muscat under the auspices of Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service.

The seminar covered the major technical issues related to vehicle recall. The Minister of Civil Service stressed the importance of the seminar in raising awareness of the relevant parties towards the technical defects.

On his part, Dr. Said bin Khamis Al Kaabi, Chairman of PACP said that the Authority is very strict in vehicle recall and repair in cooperatio­n with the auto dealers in the Sultanate. He added that during the period from 2014 up to the end of 2018, more than 90,000 vehicles were recalled.

On his part, Saud bin Nasser Al Khusaibi, Secretary General of GCC Standardiz­ation Organizati­on (GSO) said that the vehicle recall is one of the rights of the consumers and that the Authority plays a role in this area by issuing the conformity certificat­es for the vehicles, tires and motorbikes.
