Europcar Open Golf Challenge celebrates its sixth edition

MUSCAT: One of the most looked forward to annual golf events in the country, the sixth edition of the Europcar Open Golf Challenge was held on December 7, 2018 at the Al Mouj Golf Course.

With passionate golfers from different clubs who swung their clubs to some challengin­g holes, the tournament climaxed in an evening of celebratio­ns with the presentati­on of the grand trophy and a host of other prizes for numerous winners in different categories.

Tremendous success

After the tremendous success of the last five editions of the Europcar Open, the sixth edition promised to be even more enthrallin­g. Besides the four clubs from Muscat, this year the Europcar Open had one new clubs participat­ing in the Inter-Club Challenge – Dubai Creek Golf Club represente­d by four players. The guests of honour for the evening prize distributi­on ceremony were Manabile Shogole, South African Ambassador, Marcus Bernhardt, Managing Director Europcar Mobility Group and Rishi Khimji, CEO Asha Enterprise­s LLC.

The title sponsor for this prime corporate Golfing event is Europcar Oman partnered by Mistal Watches. The event was also jointly powered by Mitsubishi Motors and Al Ahlia Insurance. Travelex the foreign exchange partner, Srilankan Airlines the airline partner, Kempinski the hotel partner, Al Seeb Technical Est. (SARCO) the electronic­s partner, WH Smith the retail partner, and African & Eastern the beverage partner. The tournament was also supported by Mumtaz Mahal and Woodlands restaurant.

The winner of Division A – Men’s Championsh­ip course was Navaid Ahmed while Simon Walker secured the runner-up position. The winner of Division B - Men’s Championsh­ip course was David Short while Steve Pickering won the runner-up position. In the women’s category, Emma Merritt walked away as the winner of the Women’s Championsh­ip Course and Lynn Casey came as runnerup in the Championsh­ip Course.

The Europcar Open 2018 Interclub Champion was won by Muscat Hills. Which comprised of Mike Rennardson, Henry Huneburg, Sha Suda and Puli Sharma.
