Pakistan to release 360 Indian prisoners

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan announced that it will release 360 Indian prisoners as a gesture of goodwill, the country’s Foreign Office confirmed.
According to government figures, there are currently 537 Indian prisoners serving sentences in Pakistan, the majority being fishermen.
“Pakistan has decided to release 360 Indian prisoners who have completed their term of sentence in four batches,” said Foreign Office pokesperson Dr. Mohammad Faisal.
First batch
Faisal said the first batch of 100 fishermen would be released 8 April.
That would be followed by the release of 100 fishermen on 15 April. An additional 100 Indian fishermen will be set free on 22 April.
The last batch, which will be released on 29 April, will comprise 60 prisoners including five fishermen and 55 civilians, Faisal confirmed.
“We expect Indian to reciprocate”, he added. There are currently 347 Pakistani prisoners incarcerated in India, with 249 of them civilians and 98 fishermen.
