MUSCAT: All new RAV4 was launched at an exclusive function, held at Hotel InterContinental, Oman. The Guest of Honour at the function was Yugo Miyamoto, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Regional Office, Toyota Motor Corporation. Attending the occasion were dignitaries from the public and private sectors.

Speaking on the occasion Yugo Miyamoto said, “In 1994, Toyota’s launch of the 1st generation RAV4 introduced a new kind of car to the world, one that combined the go-anywhere performance and rugged stance of an SUV with compact dimensions and handling more akin to a hatchback. Over the past 4 generations, RAV4 continued evolving to meet changing customer needs and at the same time, never compromising on driving dynamics, fuel economy, comfort and reliability. Always pursuing the very best. The RAV4 offered a blend of adventure thanks to its SUV look and capability, and at the same time, an on-road performance similar to that of a passenger car. This has been the concept for the past 25 years. So it became essential for Toyota to redesign the all-new RAV4 to meet the everchanging needs of the customers.”

Highlight what sets the new generation RAV4 apart, he said, “For the all-new RAV4 to lead the SUV segment again for the next 25 years. We have developed the new RAV4 around the 3 pillars. “see”, “ride”, and “drive”. The allnew RAV4 has adopted new technologies and safety specs starting from 3 new technologies relating to 4WD. Firstly, AWD Integrated Management, which is linked to the vehicle control system. The AWD Integrated Management, harmonises the vehicle’s engine, transmission, brakes and AWD system, to deliver superb handling and stability in both off-road and on-road conditions. On off-roads, the driver can select either rock & dirt or mud & sand mode using the multi-terrain switch, improving off-road ground covering ability and control performance. Torque allocation, which changes depending on driving and road conditions, is displayed on the multi-information display, Second is the dynamic torque vectoring AWD equipped on all grades. This is a world first system where torque is independently distributed to the left and right rear wheels, allowing easy escape from tricky situations in poor off-road conditions, and superior cornering performance on-road. The third is the newly developed E-Four system on the HEV AWD model. This new E-Four system has 2 features. First one is on offroad, it provides powerful hillclimbing performance. Second is on on-road, it delivers a high level of cornering stability.”

Earlier in the evening, a representative from Saud Bahwan Automotive said, “Toyota, is one of the world’s most valuable brands. In a Toyota, we feel safe, confident and content. The all-new RAV4 is, in essence, disrupting the segment it created. It is bringing more sport and more utility back while enhancing the agile handling, everyday comfort and exemplary fuel efficiency. The all-new vehicle is designed to tackle urban, suburban, and great outdoor adventures with equal finesse. The look is tougher, and there’s greater capability with a new all-wheel-drive system, yet the ride is smoother and quieter, with new comfort touches inside. One of two major additions to the all-new RAV4 is the hybrid electric model, which combines two power sources consisting of a petrol engine and two electric motors. The class-leading model, which offers the lowest fuel consumption value of 22.2km/L (as per GSO certification), enables customers to contribute to a more sustainable future while enjoying increased driving satisfaction and engagement provided by its advanced technologies and cabin quietness, as well as its acceleration smoothness, especially when accelerating from a stand-still. The second addition to the all-new RAV4 is the adventure model, which was established as a symbolic model to appeal to active users through enhanced Waku Doki – the equivalent of “heart-pumping excitement” in Japanese – and a more powerful image. It is distinguished by a more aggressive bumper, grille design and fog light surround, larger over-fenders, and exclusive 19inch split five-spoke wheels with matte-black accents.

During the event, the first few customers of the all-new RAV4 were felicitated by Miyamoto. Later, enthusiasts went around viewing the vehicles on display and getting a first-hand experience of the all-new introduction.

The all-new RAV4 is now on display at the Toyota showrooms.
