‘Sport is an effective tool to strengthen bonds in GCC’
Sport can help improve the health of Omanis and develop ideas for future cooperation across the GCC

MUSCAT: Sports is an effective tool to strengthen the bonds of communication and interaction among the people of GCC countries and the entire world, said the acting Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee, Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni.
Welcoming the participants of the 31st meeting of the Council of Presidents of GCC National Olympic Committees, Al Hosni said: “I hope that our meeting in your kind presence features and puts further emphasis on the wishes of their Majesties and their Highnesses leaders of the GCC Supreme Council for further promotion of the GCC joint sports work and dedication of particular attention to the sports sector.
“It is a great chance for you to confirm our leaders’ constant emphasis of the importance of sport as a strategic requirement intended to promote and develop the people of the GCC countries and a provide solid basis for our peoples’ healthy ideas and physical fitness. In addition, this joint work is an effective tool to strengthen the bonds of communication and interaction between people of our countries and the entire world.”
He expressed thanks and appreciation to the National Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia for hosting and presiding over the meetings of the last session of the Council, which resulted in several resolutions, all focusing on the promotion of GCC sports sectors.
He said: “I also take this opportunity to express our pride at the strenuous tangible efforts made by the council’s members in the previous sessions leaving a clear imprint epitomizing the sustainability and vitality of the council’s activity.
“They played a vital role in consolidating the axes and elements of our sports and Olympic drive in the GCC countries, and we are meeting today to continue the same sincere efforts in completion of the good endeavors. Many thanks to them and welcome to you in the context of this GCC sports system. We pray to the Almighty Allah to encompass our efforts with success in the best interest of sports and athletes in our united GCC societies.”
He congratulaed Kuwait and the National Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia for hosting and presiding over the meetings of the last session of the Council, which resulted in several resolutions, all focusing on promotion of GCC sports. “We are all looking forward to reaching appropriate and constructive decisions that would consolidate the GCC joint sports work and promote the good reputation enjoyed by the Olympic sport in the GCC countries, the ultimate goal being to achieve our ambitions and aspirations and meet the ambitions of all athletes in the GCC countries,” he added.
