-

MUSCAT: Oman Cables Industry in partnership with Omani Authority for Partnership for Development (OAPFD) and Nama Group has developed National Youth Development Programme, as a strategic initiative to support training and development needs of Omani nationals.

The programme addresses employment readiness by working on “Work Competencies” of the aspirants through collaboration with leading global companies and training partners.

Candidates are selected through a rigorous process involving Academic performances, Communication skills and Psychometric tests. Focusing on the manufacturing industry, the successful candidates are systematically trained on all aspects of the industry including sales, operations and support functions, followed by specialised training on their field of expertise. Candidates are trained locally in Oman and sent abroad for international exposure during the programme.

The candidates from the first batch of this programme had an opportunity to visit and be trained at Headquarters of Prysmian Group at Milan, Italy. Prysmian Group is the world’s largest cable manufacturer with more than 100 plants all around the world.

Hiba Rashid Al-Dighaishi, current NYPD candidate says, “Being a fresh graduate, I am fortunate to be in such an intensive programme. It helps me to understand the core practical aspects of the business and prepare myself for a real working environment. Taking part in different departmental roles during the programme period allows me to experience alternative situations, learn new skills and develop my network. We were also exposed to working in a multicultural environment by travelling and visiting a number of Prysmian Group factories in Italy and Turkey. I strongly believe this opportunity will reflect great professional outcome in my career forward.”

Oman Cables further states that it will continue to achieve its commitment to sponsor and train around 50 nationals over the five years.
