National University convoy travels 3,000-km across country
MUSCAT: A convoy from Oman’s National University of Science and Technology that aims to spread awareness anout the importance of quality university education recently completed a 3,000 mile tour across the country.
The convoy travelled to 15 wilayahs across seven different governorates in Oman, stopping in the Muscat, North and South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, Dhofar, and North and South Al Sharqiyah governorates.
The convoy was part of the university’s awareness campaign to introduce potential students to its engineering programmes.
Following the completion of the journey, an exhibition detailing its travels across Oman was held at Panorama Mall.
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Dr Said bin Hamad Al Rubaei, Secretary General of the Council of Education, and included photographs and descriptions of the convoy’s journey as it crisscrossed the country.
Praising the initiatives of the National University, Al Rubaie said, “The university has distinguished itself with this novel idea, a leading idea which was the first of its kind in the higher education sector in Oman.
“The convoy provided an opportunity to get close to parents and students to listen to their educational requirements and guided them in their desires for future educational initiatives.” Launched under the motto ‘achieve your dream to become an outstanding engineer’, the National University took this opportunity to showcase many of the engineering courses it has on offer, including civil engineering, construction engineering, electrical engineering, quantity surveying, electrical power and telecommunications, among others.
Dr Salim bin Khamis Al Araimi, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost of the National University, said, “The programmes at NU are in academic cooperation with University of South Carolina and the University of West Virginia in the USA and Glasgow Caledonian University in the UK and are designed according to the American Board of EngineeringTechnology (ABET).
“It is worth mentioning that the College of Engineering is the first college to get full institutional recognition from Oman’s Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA),” Dr Salim bin Khamis Al Araimi said.
