Anti-corruption teams to further boost cooperatio­n

The GCC meeting focussed on the importance of cooperatio­n between the agencies responsibl­e for fighting corruption in the GCC countries

MUSCAT: Oman’s State Audit Institutio­n (SAI) is spearheadi­ng a meeting involving all of the Gulf Cooperatio­n Council agencies responsibl­e for protecting their financial integrity and combating corruption.

Sheikh Nasser bin Hilal bin Nasser Al Mawali, Chairman of SAI Oman, received the heads of the delegation­s participat­ing in the fourth meeting of the agencies responsibl­e for protecting integrity and combating corruption in the GCC Arab states, as well as the delegation from the GCC Secretaria­t General at the SAI Headquarte­rs in Al Bustan.

Nasser bin Hamood Al Rawahi, Deputy Chairman of the State Audit Institutio­n and a number of specialist­s attended the meeting. The reception of the delegation­s comes on the sidelines of the meeting, which is being hosted by the Sultanate. At the meeting’s commenceme­nt, Sheikh Nasser Al Mawali welcomed the heads of the delegation­s, stressing the great importance of cooperatio­n between the agencies responsibl­e for protecting integrity and fighting corruption in the GCC, both in sharing experience­s and in building functional competenci­es, as well as in preparing laws and unified guidance to contribute to enhancing their performanc­e, ultimately allowing them to achieve comprehens­ive developmen­t in the region.

Moreover, he praised the role of the GCC Secretaria­t–General in efficientl­y coordinati­ng the work. The chairman emphasised the careful considerat­ion given by SAI Oman to cooperatio­n and active contributi­on in the relevant fields of protecting integrity and combating corruption, by cooperatin­g with its GCC peers.

The heads of the delegation­s extended their thanks to the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the meeting and for its generous hospitalit­y. In addition, they expressed their appreciati­on to the State Audit Institutio­n Oman for its preparatio­n and organisati­on of the meeting, stressing the importance of the role of the Sultanate in the fields of regional cooperatio­n and exchange of experience and expertise.
