MUSCAT: Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is asking the population of the Sultanate about the facilities they want to see in a new telecom network, with the aim of providing good quality and reliable services.

In a statement, the TRA said: “Over the last six months, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has developed its first draft proposal for in-building telecommunications infrastructure framework in Oman.

The framework is intended to generate a common and efficient system of in-building infrastructure which does not constrain the quality of services, supports competitive choices for users within a building, supports a multi-operator competitive environment and provides developers and owners with guidance to deploy efficient and future-proof telecommunications infrastructure which best contributes to a better value for the property.”

TRA have decided to go ahead with the setting up of this framework after discussions with stakeholders in the country’s telecom sector, as well as public institutions which will be part of this new network.

All of these organisations provided inputs which will form the guidelines for the establishment of the country’s new telecom network.

The TRA added: “The authority is seeking the approval of interested parties and stakeholders on the proposals put forward for comment.

“TRA shall give due consideration to all comments and contributions received from these interested parties. However, incorporation of any proposed changes will be at the sole discretion of the authority.

The TRA at its own discretion may publish comments and views of the respondents unless confidentiality is requested and justified by them.”
