MEDC holds technical seminar
MUSCAT: Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), a member of Nama Group, has conducted the seventh edition of its annual technical seminar, in the presence of the company’s executive management, and a number of the employees.
The forum discussed a set of working papers for innovation projects that enhance the company’s future vision in applying the latest and most advanced technologies in the field of electricity. It also presented some knowledge sharing topics. The papers discussed several creative and innovative ideas, such as:
Transforming the electricity network into a smart network, to improve its safety, efficiency and reliability by increasing the use of digital information and Automation Control Technology for the distribution networks, which is one of the goals of the company, to increase customers’ satisfaction and ensure effective use of the company’s resources.
Monitoring to assess the health of assets and find the weak points before the failure happened
Highlight on ‘one-day connection’ project, which had international coverage and direct supervision from the World Bank to support and improve competition and businesses.
Using the big data provided by the Geographical Information System platform, after completing the periodic inspection process for the distribution stations and receiving an enormous amount of data and pictures by the Geographical Information
Dashboard to support annual maintenance plans.
Create a device that automatically sends the electricity meter readings from the meter to the billing system using Wi-Fi.
Design a programme that makes it possible for customers to monitor the instantaneous electricity consumption, without having to wait until the end of the month.
MEDC organises this forum to exchange ideas, and benefit from the existing expertise in the company. This is a step towards developing the electricity network and find creative solutions to the challenges faced by the company.
