Qomra Photography Club honoured
MUSCAT: Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth honoured Qomra Photography Club of the National University of Science and Technology the Youth Proficiency Award for the Youth initiative category in the field of culture.
Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth organised a ceremony at Grand Hyatt Muscat hotel to honour the winners of the Youth Proficiency Award. The ceremony was attended by His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, a number of officials, and ambassadors. The ministry honoured Qomra Photographic Club of the National University the Young Proficiency Award for youth initiative category in the field of culture.
Students of Qomra Club participated with the initiative of an annual exhibition included photographs produced by members of Qomra accompanied by an art competition for the youth of various colleges and universities.
The exhibition for this year comes amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the club organised the fifth Qomra week online in which students artworks was published through social media and a virtual exhibition of artworks using 3D technology.
The initiative also accompanied with various activities including a photography exhibition and a set of events like Qomra talk, critical sessions and a competition for the photography clubs in Oman.
The number of youth participated in projects reached 109 whereas the culture project reached 34 projects. In behalf of Qomra, Alaa Al-Fori, Chair of Qomra Photographic Club, expressed the feelings of winning the award who said “Thanks for all of you. Thanks for all friends of the flash for being part of us. Thanks for all those who supported and developed Qomra over the last years and make us today stand here to be honoured the Youth Proficiency Award for youth initiative category in the field of culture.
Nouf Al Yaqoubi, head of the fifth Gamrah week event, also expressed her joy on the day of honour, saying “The fifth Qomra week was an exceptional event for Qomra and photography. Qomra week as a result of the concerted efforts of many members and individuals who contributed to the success of the event. We worked throughout the days and weeks in order for the fifth week of Qomra to attract the audience of different age and all interested and uninterested in the field of photography.”
