Embassy of Nepal in Muscat hosts webinar
The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat organised a webinar on the theme ‘Nepal-Oman Literature & Nature: Posthumous Recognition to Late Mr Mohamed Al Harthi, The Eternal Traveller’ on March 27, 2021 (Saturday).
The event was held in order to pay tribute to late Mr Mohamed Al Harthi and also provide a common platform to Nepali and Omani literary persons and nature lovers. Besides, several literary works, late Al Harthi has written a travelogue in Arabic language describing touristic places surrounding Kathmandu Valley.
Somesh Thapa, Second Secretary at the embassy, welcomed all the guests and was moderator of the programme. He also gave a brief introduction of the participants.
Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal to Oman, in her opening remarks highlighted the importance of literature and also explained the interrelationship between nature and literature. Dhakal presented ‘A Letter of Honour’ as a posthumous recognition to late Mohamed Al Harthi, which was received by his daughter Ms Ibtihaj Al Harthi. Dhakal also virtually launched the website dedicated to late Al Harthi.
The Guest of Honour of the programme Azhar Al Harthi, director of Oman Cultural Club gave a brief introduction about late Al Harthi.
Some prominent figures from Nepal and Oman including Ibtihaj Al Harthi, author and illustrator of Children’s Book, Dr Ethan Chorin, translator of the book written by late Al Harthi, Dr Jokha Al Harthi, the winner of Man Booker International Prize 2019, Nadhira Al Harthi, the first woman summiteer of Mount Everest from Oman, legendary poet professor Dr Tulasi Diwas, adventurist Baida Al Zadjali, Ines Pires, President of International School of Diplomacy and Protocol Group, Dr Amira Al Raidan from the Ministry of Health of Oman, eminent Nepali poet Nawaraj Parajuli, columnist Laxmi Kothaneth, educationist and business women Maggie Jeans OBE, adventurist Janey Mcgill, Omani Women of the Year 2019 Dr Rajyashree Narayankutty, and Bikal Jha, President of Nepali Social Club put forward their remarks about the role of nature in literature and its relation to the promotion of tourism.
