Tourism potential of old alleys discussed
The State Council is studying the tourism and economic potential of old Omani alleys and its neighbourhood to convert them into hostels and tourist attractions, and to prepare and train Omanis in their restoration work.
The State Council approved a proposal submitted by the Culture, Media and Tourism Committee to study “the old Omani neighbourhood and difficulties in attracting investment in this field”.
This came during the meeting of the expanded specialised committee headed by Dr. Aisha bint Hamad Al Darmaki, Chairperson of the Culture, Media and Tourism Committee, in the presence of heads of the permanent committees of the Council, members of the committee, the Secretary-General, and employees of the General Secretariat of the Council.
The committee discussed during its second session of the second annual meeting, a proposal to study investment potential of old Omani neighbourhoods and the unifying efforts among the specialised sectors. This proposal comes in accordance with Article (53) of the Oman Council Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. (7/2021), which states that: In addition to its other powers stipulated in this law, the State Council may - on its own accord - study and discuss issues related to the implementation of development plans, and submit proposals to the government and studies that contribute to the consolidation of the original values of the Omani society.
