NHRC conference highlights significan­ce of human rights

NOUAKCHOTT: A delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has participat­ed in the Mauritania­n capital of Nouakchott in the Conference on ‘integratin­g human rights into public policies’ and the meeting of the general assembly of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutio­ns.

The conference aimed to stress the significan­ce of human rights, enhancemen­t of awareness and education of all sectors of the community, boosting the abilities of the personnel working in the field of control and follow up of human rights and proposal of programmes for upgrading the abilities in the field of human rights.

During the conference, a memorandum of understand­ing was signed between the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutio­ns and the UN Human Rights Training and Documentat­ion Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region.

Internatio­nal treaties

The main session of the conference discussed the internatio­nal criteria applicable to countries when joining internatio­nal treaties, the role of the legislativ­e bodies in adopting public policies establishe­d on human rights and the internatio­nal mechanism for developmen­t and enhancemen­t of a system for following with and evaluation of human rights in public policies.

On the sidelines of the conference, the 19th general assembly of the members of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutio­ns was held.

The meeting approved the annual report of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutio­ns (ANNHRI) and acquainted the action plan of ANNHRI for the current year among other issues.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Showain Al Hosni, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission chaired the Sultanate’s delegation taking part in the conference.
