NHRC conference highlights significance of human rights
NOUAKCHOTT: A delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has participated in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott in the Conference on ‘integrating human rights into public policies’ and the meeting of the general assembly of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions.
The conference aimed to stress the significance of human rights, enhancement of awareness and education of all sectors of the community, boosting the abilities of the personnel working in the field of control and follow up of human rights and proposal of programmes for upgrading the abilities in the field of human rights.
During the conference, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions and the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region.
International treaties
The main session of the conference discussed the international criteria applicable to countries when joining international treaties, the role of the legislative bodies in adopting public policies established on human rights and the international mechanism for development and enhancement of a system for following with and evaluation of human rights in public policies.
On the sidelines of the conference, the 19th general assembly of the members of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions was held.
The meeting approved the annual report of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) and acquainted the action plan of ANNHRI for the current year among other issues.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Showain Al Hosni, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission chaired the Sultanate’s delegation taking part in the conference.
