Probe begins after one of electric games collapses

A thorough investigat­ion is now under way to find out the lapses which led to the collapse of one of the electric games at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, one of the venues of Muscat Nights, on Tuesday evening.

A senior official of the Public Prosecutio­n confirmed to Shabiba Radio that a team from the department inspected the accident site on Wednesday. “If it becomes clear that there was negligence, those responsibl­e will be punished according to the Omani Penal Code,” an official said.

The Muscat Municipali­ty has confirmed that most of the people injured in Tuesday night’s accident have returned home.

Seven children and a woman suffered injuries in the incident.

The Municipali­ty added that it is monitoring the health status of two cases who were referred for further examinatio­ns.

The municipali­ty also confirmed that an investigat­ion is underway, the damage is being assessed, and the necessary measures are being taken.

Meanwhile the Child Protection committee in the Sultanate of Oman has communicat­ed with the concerned authoritie­s to ensure child safety, due to the accident on Tuesday.

The Child Protection Committee in Muscat Governorat­e held an urgent meeting via videoconfe­rence, chaired by Sayyida Ma’ani bint Abdullah Al Busaidi, Director General for Family Developmen­t at the Ministry of Social Developmen­t, to find out the details and events of the accident.

The committee has communicat­ed with the concerned authoritie­s to ensure the safety of the children, as it will work to provide psychologi­cal support and counsellin­g to the injured children and their families, with the aim of mitigating the psychologi­cal effects of the accident.

The committee also called for the importance of providing psychologi­cal support to the children present at the event, by communicat­ing with specialist­s via the child protection line 1100.
