Aster Royal performs successful breast conservative surgery for early-stage breast cancer

-

Aster Royal Hospital Ghubra Muscat announced the success of a breast conservative surgery performed on a patient with early left breast cancer.

The procedure was carried out by the breast cancer surgery team led by Dr Salim Al Rahbi, Consultant and Dr Abha Singhvi, Specialist and the interventional radiology team of Dr Rashid Al Sukaiti and Dr Mahmood Al Hajiry at the hospital’s state-ofthe-art facility.

The patient, a 49-year-old woman who was under follow-up for benign breast lumps, underwent a breast ultrasound which showed a new left breast lesion that was 1 cm in size and clinically not palpable. The lesion was confirmed to be invasive ductal carcinoma after undergoing a US-guided biopsy. The patient underwent staging which showed no distal metastasis.

To treat cancer, the patient underwent a wire localisation procedure to localise the small impalpable breast cancer lesion detected by screening. This is a service that is available at Aster Royal Hospital. The patient was sent to a breast or intervention radiologist just before the surgery to insert the wire into the lesion. She was then shifted to the operation theatre to excise the lesion with a safety margin by breast surgeons.

The procedure was successful, and the patient was discharged on the same day of surgery. The patient expressed satisfaction with the procedure, and the doctors involved provided excellent care.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in females in Oman and worldwide. Aster Royal Hospital has all the facilities and expertise to diagnose and treat breast cancer. Aster encourages female patients to start breast screening at the age of 40 to detect breast cancer early, which has a great impact on treatment and prognosis. In addition to breast screening at the age of 40, mammograms are an essential tool for the early detection of breast cancer.

Regular mammograms can detect breast cancer before a lump can be felt, and they can also find small lumps that may not yet be cancerous. Mammograms are a vital tool in the early detection of breast cancer, and they can help save lives. Aster Royal Hospital Ghubra is committed to making mammography services accessible to all women in the community. The hospital provides mammography services at affordable rates and works with insurance companies to make sure that the patients can access the care they need.

The hospital has state-of-theart mammography equipment and a team of skilled radiologists who specialise in breast imaging. Aster Royal Hospital continues to invest in advanced technology and research to improve breast cancer treatment and care.
