- Times News Service

bp Oman recently signed three agreements as part of its national training programme, ‘Ruwad’. A combined effort between bp, Oman energy association (Opal) and various other oil and gas contractors, the ‘Ruwad’ programme aims to establish a framework that enables the upskilling of national competencies in line with Oman Vision 2040’s goals and objectives.

Following its successful launch last year, bp signed an agreement with SLB (formerly known as Schlumberger), Worley and Nafath. In total, the three contractors will provide 46 training and internship opportunities to participants.

Designed for graduates with technical and non-technical backgrounds, including Bachelor, Diploma and General Diploma holders, Ruwad’s primary goal is to empower participants with the necessary skills needed to forge a successful career in the local job market. Additionally, successful participants will have the opportunity to secure employment with the partnered contractors and will receive a certificate of experience as well. The graduates selected to train with SLB, Worley and Nafath, will focus on the fields of engineering, renewable energy, supply chain, finance and technical and non-technical fields.

Ali Al Lawati, Managing Director of SLB Oman, said, “We believe that a comprehensive training programme like ‘Ruwad’ will not only positively impact the future of our participants, but will also contribute to the sustainable development of Oman’s national workforce. By onboarding 30 interns, our investment and participation as training partners in this programme reflect our commitment to creating a generation of skilled young Omani professionals.”

“Ruwad programme is designed to ensure participants are equipped with the right skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced job market. Our partnership with bp Oman via this programme aims to create a capable workforce and an attractive labour market, both of which align with Oman Vision 2040,” added Patrick Tranter, Vice President of Oman Operations, Worley.

Speaking about their role in the programme, Abdullah Al Saidi, Cofounder and CEO of Nafath Renewable Energy, said, “Our aim at Nafath is to empower Oman’s youth and present new opportunities for them in the renewable energy sector. Working with bp Oman, we affirm our commitment to support the development of Oman’s sustainable energy future.”
