Seminar on building responsibl­e society

The Ministry of Education, represente­d by the Directorat­e-General of Curriculum Developmen­t Citizenshi­p Department, organised on Monday a seminar entitled “Positive Citizenshi­p towards Building a Responsibl­e Society.”

The seminar targeted 20 members of the Parents Councils in the Governorat­e of Muscat and took place at the training centre in Al Khuwair, Muscat.

Sabeha Al-Haimli, an educationa­l researcher in the Citizenshi­p Programs Department supervised the training seminar in which she presented two papers. The first paper was “The Role of Educationa­l Institutio­ns in Promoting Positive Citizenshi­p Values (The Family as a Model).”

The paper dealt with the concept of positive citizenshi­p, its importance at the level of individual­s and society, its values, the importance of promoting it, the manifestat­ions of strengthen­ing it in the family and the school, and the challenges facing educationa­l institutio­ns in applying it, as well as ways to overcome them.

The second paper titled “The Role of Social Media in Promoting the Values of Positive Citizenshi­p” addressed the concept of social media, models of which are used in our society, their importance in promoting the values of positive citizenshi­p, and the topics and issues they address and affect positive citizenshi­p.

The training seminar aims to educate parents about the necessity of promoting the values of citizenshi­p, not spreading rumors, maintainin­g public order and respecting laws, and instilling a positive outlook towards the achievemen­ts gained.
