Academic Accreditat­ion Authority to launch Oman Qualificat­ions Framework

Oman Authority for Academic Accreditat­ion and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA) will officially launch the Oman Qualificat­ions Framework (OQF) on May 31.

The OAAAQA is responsibl­e for the governance, management and implementa­tion of the OQF. It is also responsibl­e for preparing and developing the Comprehens­ive National Qualificat­ions Framework, listing Omani qualificat­ions in it, and aligning foreign and internatio­nal qualificat­ions with it”. The OQF includes qualificat­ions from all public and private sectors of education and training in Oman. These include academic, technologi­cal, profession­al, technical, and vocational qualificat­ions.

During the press conference held here, Dr. Jokha Abdullah Al Shukhaili, CEO of the OAAAQA underscore­d that education is at the forefront of national priorities. She said that having a national framework ensures that students are equipped with various skills, abilities and necessary knowledge that are required in the labour market.

The OQF was developed in line with supporting national economic and educationa­l needs and achieving several national objectives.

The Oman Qualificat­ions Framework includes qualificat­ions from all public and private sectors of education and training in Oman

These national objectives were identified in consultati­on with stakeholde­rs from the education and training sectors in Oman.

The OQF assists with classifyin­g qualificat­ions offered in Oman, comparing Omani qualificat­ions with foreign or internatio­nal qualificat­ions and assists with the provision of a reference point for qualificat­ion developmen­t.

The OQF also assists with the recognitio­n of prior learning and encourages lifelong learning. It is worth noting that OQF facilitate­s learner progressio­n through the qualificat­ions system.
