Al Nahda crowned champion

Al Nahda celebrated their title success in the 2022-2023 Omantel League, organised by the Oman Football Associatio­n (OFA) on Tuesday night in front of their home fans after a goalless draw against Sur in the concluding round.

Al Nahda had clinched their fourth domestic top-flight league crown with a round to spare and on Tuesday shared the spoils with Sur.

Later, the CEO of Omantel, Talal Said al Mamari, handed over the Omantel League shield to Al Nahda.

It was a successful finish to the domestic season for the Buraimi Governorat­e club, having earlier won the His Majesty’s Cup.

Al Nahda ended with 56 points with 16 wins, eight draws and two defeats in 26 matches.

Al Suwaiq trounced Sohar 4-0 to secure the runner-up spot edging past last season’s champions Seeb by a point. Suwaiq ended with 52 points, having won 16 but losing six and drawing four. Seeb came a close third after scraping to a 1-0 win over Rustaq on Tuesday to finish at 51 points. Dhofar were fourth with 45 points following their 4-1 win over Al Ittihad in the last round. Rustaq took the fifth place with 43.

Al Arouba, Al Ittihad and Al Bashayer got relegated to the first division.

Final standings: 1 Al Nahda (56 points), 2 Al Suwaiq (52), 3 Seeb (51), 4 Dhofar (45), 5 Al Rustaq (43), 6 Bahla (40), 7 Oman (37), 8 Sohar (37), 9 Al Mussanah (33), 10 Al Nasr (30), 11 Sur (28), 12 Al Arouba (17), 13 Al Ittihad (17), 14 Al Bashayer (12).
