49% Pak­ista­nis think the abol­ish­ment of in­ter­est based lend­ing will im­prove eco­nomic sit­u­a­tion: Poll

IS­LAM­ABAD: Ac­cord­ing to a Gi­lani Re­search Foun­da­tion Sur­vey car­ried out by Gallup and Gi­lani Pak­istan, 49% Pak­ista­nis think that the abol­ish­ment of in­ter­est based lend­ing will im­prove eco­nomic sit­u­a­tion in the coun­try; 26% be­lieve that this ac­tion will fur­ther dete- ri­o­rate the fi­nan­cial sit­u­a­tion. A na­tion­ally rep­re­sen­ta­tive sam­ple of men and women from across the four prov­inces was asked “In your opin­ion would the eco­nomic con­di­tion im­prove in the coun­try if the sys­tem of in­ter­est is abol­ished from Pak­istan?

”In re­sponse to this ques- tion, 49% said it will im­prove, 26% said it will de­te­ri­o­rate, 22% said no change while 3% did not know or re­spond to the ques­tion.

The study was re­leased by Gi­lani Re­search Foun­da­tion and car­ried out by Gallup and Gi­lani Pak­istan, the Pak­istani af­fil- iate of Gallup In­ter­na­tional.

The re­cent sur­vey was car­ried out among a sam­ple of 1450 men and women in ru­ral and ur­ban ar­eas of all four prov­inces of the coun­try, Oc­to­ber 29 – Novem­ber
