Ab­bas Zeb wins Chief of Air Staff U-19 squash cham­pi­onship

PESHAWAR: Ab­bas Zeb emerged as the Un­der

19 cham­pion at the Chief of theAir Staff Na­tional Junior Squash Cham­pi­onship

2018.

The cham­pi­onship was held at Hashim Khan Squash Com­plex, Peshawar.

Air Mar­shal Aasim Za­heer, Vice Chief of the Air Staff, was the chief guest on the fi­nal day of the cham­pi­onship. High-rank­ing of­fi­cers of the Pak­istan Air Force (PAF) and squash lovers from the city also wit­nessed the fi­nal match.

The fi­nal match of the

Un­der-19 Cat­e­gory was played be­tween Ab­bas Zeb and Zee­shan Zeb. It was a thrilling match in which Ab­bas Zeb de­feated his op­po­nent with the game score of 11/4, 11/8, 8/11 and

14/12 and lifted the cham­pi­onship tro­phy.

In the Un­der-11 cat­e­gory, Vorun Asif beat Mubeen Khan with the game score of 11/8, 11/6, 6/11 and 11/7.

While in the Un­der-13 cat­e­gory, Anas Bukhari de­feated Hu­mam Ah­mad by 11/9, 12/10, 7/11, 5/11 and 11/8. M Hamza beat Huza­ifa Zahid 12/10, 11/6 & 11/7 in the fi­nal of the

Un­der-15 cat­e­gory while the fi­nal of the Un­der-17 cat­e­gory was played be­tween Farhan Hashmi and Asad Ul­lah and was won by the for­mer with the game score of 12/14, 12/10,

11/5 and 11/6. Speak­ing at the oc­ca­sion, Vice Chief of the Air Staff said, “PSF in col­lab­o­ra­tion with PAF has fo­cused on the pro­mo­tion of squash at grass-root level.”

“These young play­ers are the fu­ture of Pak­istan Squash and would be pro­vided ev­ery pos­si­ble fa­cil­ity to bring the lost glory in the game,” he added and an­nounced a cash prize of

Rs500,000 from PAF and a brand new car from PSF to the player who wins the up­com­ing Bri­tish Open Ju­niors and US Open Junior Squash cham­pi­onships.

2018 was held from De­cem­ber 3 to 7, with a prize money of RS

500,000. Over 200 play­ers from across the coun­try, in­clud­ing all na­tional seeded junior play­ers, par­tic­i­pated in the cham­pi­onship.
