A Taxing Debate

Enterprise - - Letters -

Taxation is a complex phenomenon in Pakistan. There are different types of tax. Over seven million people are eligible to pay tax. But only 0.5 million people actually pay taxes. How can an economy grow under these circumstances? The improper collection of taxes is a key reason for inflation, poverty and the deteriorating law and order situation. Around 52 percent of our economy remains undocumented. How can the taxation department develop under these circumstances?

Taxes exert a strong influence on the economy. A suitable means of collecting taxes from every segment of society can lead the nation towards prosperity and development. The government must work towards implementing the tax laws in an effective manner.
