Women Contribute Greatly to Solving Global Problems: Turkmen Mejlis Head

The Dialogue of Women of the Central Asian countries and the Russian Federation “The Role of Women in Socio-Political and SocioEcono­mic Developmen­t” was held in Turkmenist­an’s capital Ashgabat. The dialogue gathered representa­tives of Central Asian countries and Russia, and heads of regional structures of the United Nations, the official Turkmen media reports.

The plenary session was opened by Gulshat Mammedova, Chairman of the Mejlis Chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh. Warmly welcoming the participan­ts of the event, she said, "Our Dialogue is aimed at supporting cooperatio­n, trust and mutual understand­ing between women, providing them with opportunit­ies for a more significan­t impact on issues related to peace, stability and sustainabl­e developmen­t."

“Our women, with their active work and new ideas, make a great and extremely important contributi­on to the fight against such global threats as the negative effects of climate change, environmen­tal degradatio­n, as well as to address pressing issues of socio-economic, cultural and humanitari­an developmen­t, health care and education ", Gulshat Mammedova said. The members of the parliament­s of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan gave speeches on the role of women in maintainin­g internatio­nal dialogue in the name of peace and sustainabl­e developmen­t, preserving cultural identity, developing entreprene­urship, and addressing environmen­tal issues.

The meeting resulted in adoption of the Declaratio­n of the Dialogue of Women of the Central Asian countries and Russia, which, in particular, notes the achievemen­ts of these states in strengthen­ing regional and internatio­nal cooperatio­n in order to ensure peace, stability and sustainabl­e developmen­t. Created in December 2020 by representa­tives of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenist­an and Uzbekistan, with the support of the UN, the Women's Dialogue is the first of its kind structure in the history of Central Asia. -
