The 8th regional meeting of the heads of border agencies of the CIS member states takes place in Khiva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 March, the 8th regional meeting of the heads of border agencies of the CIS member states was held in Khiva (Uzbekistan).

It was attended by representa­tives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenist­an and Uzbekistan, as well as the Council

of Border Troops Commanders, the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure, the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS ATC.

The influence of modern geopolitic­al factors on challenges and threats to border security on the external borders of the CIS states in the Central Asian region is considered. Measures to counter them have been developed.

Steps to strengthen border cooperatio­n were discussed.

Ways have been outlined to use the potential of the SKPV in building multilater­al interactio­n in the border area, including with the working structures of specialize­d internatio­nal organizati­ons.

President of Turkmenist­an Serdar Berdimuham­edov met with several prominent figures on Wednesday in Ashgabat. Among them were Husrev Noziri, the Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperatio­n Organizati­on (ECO), Zurab Pololikash­vili, the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organizati­on (UNWTO), Kubanychbe­k Omuraliev, the Secretary-General of the Organizati­on of Turkic States, and David Haggerty, the head of the Internatio­nal Tennis Federation (ITF), along with Yuri Polsky, President of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF).

During the meeting with the SecretaryG­eneral of the Economic Cooperatio­n Organizati­on (ECO), both sides expressed interest in exploring the prospects of multidimen­sional relations between Turkmenist­an and the organizati­on. It was also noted that Turkmenist­an is ready to significan­tly diversify natural gas supplies to consumers and transit carriers within the ECO framework.

Furthermor­e, the Turkmenist­an’s President invited the ECO to actively participat­e in harnessing the transit potential of the country, utilizing transporta­tion corridors like the North-South and East-West routes.
