The 8th regional meeting of the heads of border agencies of the CIS member states takes place in Khiva
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 March, the 8th regional meeting of the heads of border agencies of the CIS member states was held in Khiva (Uzbekistan).
It was attended by representatives of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Council
of Border Troops Commanders, the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure, the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS ATC.
The influence of modern geopolitical factors on challenges and threats to border security on the external borders of the CIS states in the Central Asian region is considered. Measures to counter them have been developed.
Steps to strengthen border cooperation were discussed.
Ways have been outlined to use the potential of the SKPV in building multilateral interaction in the border area, including with the working structures of specialized international organizations.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with several prominent figures on Wednesday in Ashgabat. Among them were Husrev Noziri, the Secretary-General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States, and David Haggerty, the head of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), along with Yuri Polsky, President of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF).
During the meeting with the SecretaryGeneral of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), both sides expressed interest in exploring the prospects of multidimensional relations between Turkmenistan and the organization. It was also noted that Turkmenistan is ready to significantly diversify natural gas supplies to consumers and transit carriers within the ECO framework.
Furthermore, the Turkmenistan’s President invited the ECO to actively participate in harnessing the transit potential of the country, utilizing transportation corridors like the North-South and East-West routes.
