Strong possibility of sighting Eidul Fitr moon today
ISLAMABAD, (NNI): There is strongly possibility of sighting the Eidul Fitr moon in the country today.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the birth of the Shawwal moon is expected to emerge on the night of April 8 at 11:21 pm local time.
On April 9, the age of the moon will be 19 to 20 hours. It will be visible to naked eye for about 50 minutes after sunset, the weather department said.
PMD said that if the moon is sighted on April 9, Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10.
The Met Office forecast that in the southern regions of the country the sky would likely be clear, while it could be cloudy in the northern regions.
On the other hand, the Shawaal moon will be sighted in Saudi Arabia today.
According to the experts, the moon is not likely to be seen today and as a result, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid simultaneously.
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet tomorrow to sight the Shawwal moon.
The meeting will be headed by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad. Representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
