UK NSA commends Pak govt for achieving substantial successes in war on terror
PRAISES PM FOR REACHING OUT TO NEIGHBOURS FOR CORDIAL RELATIONS PM NAWAZ SAYS KASHMIR RESOLUTION WOULD ENSURE DURABLE PEACE IN REGION
THE United Kingdom (UK) National Security Adviser (NSA) Sir Mark Lyall Grant called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at PM House this morning. Paying rich tributes to the sacrifices made in the war against terrorism, Sir Grant commended the government for achieving substantial successes in this war. The NSA acknowledged the huge sacrifices made by the armed forces, police and other law enforcing agencies in the war against terrorists.
Sir Grant congratulated the PM on successfully completing the IMF support programme and achieving macroeconomic stability.
“It was exceedingly positive to learn from DFID that Pakistan is showing remarkable improvement in the health and education sectors,” added the NSA. The NSA appreciated the PM’s policy of reaching out to the neighbour countries for establishing cordial relationships with them. “We encourage and support your efforts for peaceful cooperation with your neighbouring countries,” added the NSA.
Welcoming the NSA, PM Nawaz said that Pakistan is a peace loving country and pursues the policy of maintaining friendly relationships with all its neighbours. The prime minister said that the issue of India-occupied Kashmir (IOK) is the core issue between India and Pakistan, and its resolution would ensure durable peace in the region. The prime minister said that Kashmir issue must be resolved according to the UN resolutions, as per the commitments made by the Indian government. “The world community must take a note of the grave human rights violations and atrocities committed by Indian forces in the IOK.” PM Nawaz said that it is high time that the long standing issue of IOK is resolved as per the aspirations of the people of Kashmir; guaranteed to them by the UN resolutions.
“More than hundred innocent people have been brutally killed, hundreds have been blinded by the use of pellet guns while thousands have been injured in the last few months alone,” added the prime minister. According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Sir Grant’s support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts came during a meeting with Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi. During the meeting, Fatemi underscored the importance Pakistan attached to its relations with the United Kingdom and noted that partnership between the two countries was moving in the right direction.
He recalled the recent warm and cordial meeting between PM Nawaz Sharif and his British counterpart Theresa May in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Fatemi highlighted the improved security situation and its positive impact on economic revival in Pakistan.
