Imposters posing as PM House employees say Police backed them

5 TOP-NOTCH OFFICERS OF ICT POLICE CONNIVED WITH 2 FRAUDSTERS TO BLACKMAIL CITIZENS

Two fraudsters, recently apprehended by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), revealed they had bagged Rs 85 million through blackmail and coercion in the name of Prime Minister House and Interior Ministry. They also revealed that they were helped by the police and were provided with government vehicles and confidential information of the victims.

According to the statement of the accused recorded by the FIA, Asif Ahmed Chuhan and Muhammad Iftikhar named 5 high-ranking police officials including Security Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Mir Wayiz Niaz, Diplomatic Enclave Superintendant Police (SP) Jamil Hashmi, City SP Zubair Ahmed Sheikh, I-9 Station House Officer (SHO) Sajjad Haider Bukhari, I9 Additional SHO Gulzar Ahmed and an ASI of PS I-9, Islamabad.

In a written statement submitted to FIA in the court of Rural Assistant Commissioner Jawad Muzafar, the accused named the police officials and said they were provided with data of the citizens by these officials.

Six cases of fraud were registered against the accused, who admitted that they had befriended the policemen after being arrested in 489-F cheque dishonor case in P.S I-9 Industrial Area.

Muhammad Iftikhar from Toba Taik Singh, currently resident of Rawalpindi admitted that they had been living in rented premises, and started defrauding people after matriculation. Asif Ahmed Chauhan from Jehlum said he had already spent all the money on treatment of his ailing wife. Both the accused said they had no property, bank balance or assets in their name.

Sources in FIA said that bogus cheques of around Rs 15 million had been recovered from them.

A police official, on condition of anonymity, said there were many examples of police helping fraudsters but not action could be taken because these police officials had political backing.

Operations SSP Sajid Kiyani refused to comment on the matter when asked if he would initiate action against the accused officers.
