Poultry production activities

IT is good to note that the Punjab Government has taken a positive in the right direction to regulate the manufacture, storage, supply, transport for sale and marketing of feed stuff and compound feed in the province to ensure standards of production and quality of feed stuff, to check adulteration and misbranding of poultry and livestock feed stuff and compound feed ingredients and to deal with ancillary matters.

According to the reports, a bill has been introduced in the Provincial Assembly couple of days back in this regard and after due processing and legislation, it will take the form of a legislation in due course of time.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab Animals Compound Feed and Feed Stuff Ordinance 2002 was enacted to regulate the manufacturing and marketing of animal feed and feed stuff. Somehow, the existing law and was not found fulfilling the modern day requirements and challenges and dire need was felt for more effective regulation of manufacturing, supply and sale of feed stuff and animal feeds.

Accordingly, the bill so already introduced in the provincial legislation aims at making effective provisions to regulate the manufacture, storage, supply , transport for sale and marketing of feed stuff and compound feed, ensuring its standards of production and quality and more importantly checking and controlling adulteration and misbranding of poultry and livestock feed stuff. All this surely augur well for improvement of poultry and livestock sectors which are directly and indirectly concerned with the health of the people, please. M Z RIFAT Lahore
