Two civilians killed, eight injured in Indian cross-border firing

TWO civilians were killed while eight others were injured on Wednesday due to unprovoked Indian firing at Chaprar Sector on the Working Boundary, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Another civilian, Sikander from Sona Valley, who was injured at the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Kharian, the ISPR said.

Pakistan on Wednesday again summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh to protest repeated ceasefire violations at the Working Boundary and LoC. The Foreign Office handed a protest letter to the Indian envoy over the ceasefire violations. Pakistan Army soldiers befittingly responded to the unprovoked Indian firing along the Line of Control (LoC) overnight, leaving five troops dead and destroying four military posts on the other side of the de facto border, according to media reports.

“Five Indian soldiers were confirmed to have been shot and four Indian posts [were] destroyed at Bhimber sector,” said reports, citing sources in the military.

Since the Uri attack in occupied Kashmir, Indian forces have consistently violated the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan. On September 29, India claimed to have conducted surgical strikes in Azad Kashmir, saying several terrorists were killed in the military action conducted inside Pakistani territory. The claims were not only rebuffed by Pakistan and the international media, but they also prompted demands from some Indian political leaders for New Delhi to substantiate it with evidence.
