Govt nominates Baligh-ur-rehman as Punjab governor

-

Pakistan Muslim league-nawaz (Pml-n) leader Mohammad Balighur-rehman has been nominated for the position of Punjab governor.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent a summary to President dr Arif Alvi, seeking appointment of Balighur-rehman as Punjab governor.

Earlier, Rehman had served as education minister in former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s cabinet from August, 2017 to May, 2018. He was elected as Member of national Assembly (MNA) on Pml-n’s ticket for the first time in 2008 and then later in 2013.

The Shehbaz-led government had approached the president twice for the removal of incumbent Punjab governor omar Sarfaraz Cheema.

Cheema has been causing problems for the Pml-n in Punjab ever since he was given the post by former premier Imran Khan during his last days in power. The governor had triggered a constitutional crisis after he refused to administer the oath of office to Chief Minister Punjab Hamza Shehbaz.

Hamza was finally sworn in after the lahore High Court ordered national Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to administer the oath to Hamza.

PPP’S Ali Haider gillani, Makhdoom Syed Usman Mehmood and Mumtaz Ali Khan Chaang are expected to become Punjab ministers, while Hassan Murtaza is expected to be named Punjab's senior minister.

The names of Shazia Abid, ghazanfar Abbas langah, Rais nabeel Ahmad have been proposed for parliamentary secretaries, while Shehzad Saeed Cheema’s name has been proposed for special assistant.

Earlier, it was reported that PPP had demanded the slot of Punjab governor and three provincial ministries.
