Shishper Glacier Outburst: Federal govt to provide all resources to tackle situation: Kaira
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgitbaltistan (GB), Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the federal government will provide all resources to tackle any emergency situation in connection with the outburst of Shishper glacier and to provide relief to the affectees.
Chief Secretary Gilgit-baltistan Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani and other officials gave online briefing to the advisor regarding destruction caused by flood situation due to outburst of Shishper glacier.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the Ministry of Climate Change and Risk Management Fund through mutual cooperation will prepare a detailed report regarding destruction and risk points would be identified in the report.
He also lauded the role of NDMA and NHA and said that construction of temporary bridge would be completed within 15 days. He said that after finalizing the design of permanent bridge, the construction should be completed in six months. The Advisor said that due to timely and quick response of the Gilgit-baltistan administration, no causality was reported in the mishap. He said that the ministry of climate change and Risk Management fund through joint efforts will prepare cooperative point regarding devastation caused by the natural points.
The Advisor Kashmir Affairs appreciated the role of NDMA and NHA and urged to complete the construction of temporary bridge within 15 days.
He asked for completing the design of permanent bridge and its completion within six months. Policy for restoration of the affected population and houses should be made shortly, he added.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the federal government will all possible resources to tackle the emergency situation. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Gilgit-baltistan Mohiuddin Wani said that the flood situation affected a bridge and 10 houses while 11 houses were got vacant as protective measure.
He said that round the clock monitoring of situation was underway while food and fuel stock was present in the affected areas.
The Chief Secretary said that for alternative arrangement of power supply, diesel generators have been taken to the area and affected population was being provided all resources.
