PTI ready for talks with establishment only on its constitutional role

- ISLAMABAD STAFF REPORT

Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) spokesperson Rauf Hasan reaffirmed the party’s commitment to engaging with the establishment within constitutional boundaries.

During a talk show with local TV channel, Hasan clarified Shehryar Afridi’s statement on army negotiations, asserting it does not reflect party policy.

Highlighting PTI’S stance, Hasan emphasized the importance of institutional adherence to constitutional roles, stating that talks with the establishment aim to ensure compliance with these mandates.

Moreover, Hasan underscored PTI’S willingness to engage with political parties, evident in the formation of a six-party opposition alliance. However, PTI chief Imran Khan has directed against negotiations with PPP, PML-N, and MQM, alleging mandate infringement.

Sources within PTI revealed Imran Khan’s authorization for negotiations with the establishment and political factions, subject to adherence to constitutional principles.

PTI leader Shibli Faraz confirmed Khan’s approval for talks.

Ahead of negotiations, Terms of Reference (TORS) will be established in accordance with Khan’s directives, facilitating discussions with various stakeholders.

Speaking to journalists, Faraz stressed the necessity of defining negotiation parameters amidst prevailing political turbulence. He advocated for stakeholder involvement in determining negotiation modalities and environments.

Faraz acknowledged both PTI and the establishment as political realities, noting the government’s formation under Article 47 necessitates clarity on its authority.

The invitation extended by PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui for talks during a Senate session underscores growing political dialogue amid evolving circumstances.
