‘Anwar Bhai is a Masseur.’
Unconventional wisdom is something which is very obvious about Anwar Bhai. I think all of us come together in unison and agree that his extraordinary humour, his wit and presence of mind and his kind of fearlessness to speak his mind out, of course with a subtle tease, makes him emerge as a star and definitely an all-rounder.
Anwar Bhai is a master of art, poetry and prose and indeed he is a great artist. He is a promoter of talent and a great collaborator in the field of art and science and one can go on about him. But, to me, while all this is extraordinary and great, a few things about him which stand out from the rest, are his qualities that are not to be found in anyone as he is unique and a masterpiece.
Anwar Bhai, as I see him, is a masseur and I honestly mean it when I say this. He is an absolute change-agent who has a combination of wit and humour and extraordinary insights about human behaviour. He has quietly moved the nation in a certain direction. He is a masseur because he has made us laugh during very tough times and has brought the best out of all of us. He is a patriot and a true Pakistani and may be more of a Karachite. He is everything and is loved by all ages, by all ethnic groups from Karachi to Peshawar.
He is a national figure because he is of course venerated not only in Pakistan but outside the country as well. He is a pioneer in creating a unique format on television. His collaboration with Moin Akhtar and Bushra Ansari and many others, who helped this medium of television to grow and expand in Pakistan, has been extraordinary. Then, of course, he is a pioneer of theatre as well and the way he leverages that platform, energizing the audience and making them laugh and cry and that too both at the same time, is a quality that only a few people have achieved.
So I am really happy to have been given the opportunity to talk about Anwar Bhai who I have known for almost 40 years now. I just wish him good health and hope that we will soon hear from him, his unique perspective on the change in the political status quo in Pakistan and how he sees THIS 7E LOOK FORWARD TO HIM TO CREATE A new play for us to watch and perhaps a new television program around this. I am sure he is already thinking about it, so best of luck and thank you for the opportunity once again.
