The governments of Nepal and China have signed various agreements for technology, transportation and infrastructure development. China is building a railway line that will connect the western region of Tibet with Nepal. The railway link will connect Kathmandu with Shigatse, a Tibetan city. China is currently working with Nepal to build a "cross-Himalayan connectivity network" through aviation, trading ports, highways and telecommunications. To meet the country’s increasing energy needs, Nepal has signed multi-billion deals with Chinese firms to build hydropower plants in Nepal’s western region.
