PM, Kazakh president affirm cooperation in trade, transportation
Prime Minister Imran Khan and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met here in the capital of Tajikistan and affirmed the commitment to enhance bilateral relations in diverse fields particularly trade, investment and transportation links.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of 20th Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS) Summit, focused on closed collaboration for the mutual benefit of two countries. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and discussed key regional and international issues.
The prime minister underlined that Pakistan was resolved to comprehensively upgrade engagement with Central Asian countries through its "Vision Central Asia" policy. He particularly emphasized the importance of connectivity and Pakistan's pivotal position in providing the shortest access route to the sea.
The prime minister also highlighted the significance of TransAfghan railway project connecting Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-KabulJalalabad-Peshawar. He also elaborated his vision of socio-economic development and shifting country's priority from geo-politics to geo-economics.
To promote regional integration, the two sides also decided to enhance connectivity through land and air routes. The prime minister also underscored the importance of peace and stability in Afghanistan for Pakistan and the region.
He stressed that the international community had to remain engaged to support the Afghan people, to address urgent humanitarian needs, and take steps to stabilize the economy. The prime minister stressed that sustainable peace and security in Afghanistan would contribute to regional peace, connectivity and progress.
The two leaders agreed to increase the frequency of high-level political exchanges. The Prime
Minister renewed the invitation to President Tokayev to visit Pakistan. President Tokayev extended invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Kazakhstan. Pakistan and Kazakhstan enjoy cordial relations based on a common approach towards the world issues as well as bilateral understanding.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said Thursday that Pakistan was providing facilities and ease of doing business opportunities to foreign investors. The prime minister is in Dushanbe to attend a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. Addressing an event where businessmen from Pakistan and Tajikistan were in attendance, the premier said he wanted to speak to a joint gathering of businessmen from both countries.
"I believe we have representatives of 67 Pakistani companies here in Dushanbe. They come from different fields, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, and logistics," he added.
The prime minister lamented that the cost of electricity was too high in Pakistan. "We want the KASA 1,000 energy project to be completed soon," he said. "There are lots of opportunities related to the clean energy projects in Tajikistan." He extended an invite to Tajikistan's businessmen to invest in Pakistan, adding that the Pakistani government was creating opportunities and removing hurdles for its own business community as well.
"We will provide every help possible to investors in Pakistan," said the prime minister. PM Imran Khan briefly spoke on the Afghanistan issue, saying that peace in the country was vital for the region's progress.
The prime minister arrived in Tajikistan Thursday on a two-day official visit to attend the 20th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State (SCO-CHS) meeting in Dushanbe. Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda received PM Imran Khan at the airport.
