GE15: Dr Mahathir in shock defeat in Langkawi

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was soundly defeated in Langkawi.

The elder statesman of Malaysian politics, in fact, came in only fourth in a field of five candidates, polling just 4,566. The seat was won by Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah of Perikatan Nasional who received 25,463 votes for a majority of 13,518 over Barisan Nasional's Datuk Armishah Siraj.

Third was Pakatan Harapan's Zabidi Yahya who received 5,417 votes, with independen­t Datuk Paduka Abd Kadir only polling 89 votes.

With these result, Dr Mahathir, who is Parti Pejuang Tanah Air and Gerak Tanah Air chairman, will lose his deposit, as will the PH and independen­t candidates.
