Pause for thought

Middle East Business (English) - - FRONT PAGE -

Industry and agriculture remain two of the key sectors able to boost economies and generate jobs, even with such alarming unemployment rates across the globe, especially amongst the youth of today. Therefore, we have chosen to highlight one of the key industries in the Middle East - the pharmaceutical industry - which not only plays a social economic role as job creator, but also assists at a humanitarian level (Arabic section). Shortages of medicine is still a considerable challenge, a topic tackled in a brief report by the WHO. In connection with this, our CSR editor, Daan Elffers, writes about the importance of corporate social responsibility in the health sector. Entrepreneurship is a relatively modern term that has become commonly used these past few years; more recently, social entrepreneurship has become an on trend issue. These topics remain at the heart of our magazine this issue, as entrepreneurship is considered as a door opener towards reducing unemployment and creating new ideas in the emerging markets. Despite the fact that child labour has decreased - only slightly- you are invited to read more about this topic in a brief report by ILO. As usual, we offer an eclectic range of topics to keep you informed. Middle East Business continues to be media partner at more than 20 conferences around the globe including those in Mauritius, India, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. And in order to keep doors open to discuss various topics of interest, we are launching “Middle East Business Forum”, where we will conduct symposia and round table meetings on various topics of interest for you, our readers. Enjoy this issue and remember to keep in touch with comments and suggestions... Your comments and suggestions are always welcome, so please do not be shy in sending them to me at: [email protected]dleEast-Busi
