Hip hop has taken a foothold in Port Moresby with regular classes at the Holiday Inn’s Life Gymnasium.

Whether you can dance or not, it’s hard not to start bopping to the music if you look in on one of the high-energy classes taken by instructor Theodore Towalila.

Towalila (pictured far right with some of his dance students) says there is a lot of interest from young Papua New Guineans looking for something new to do.

“Dancing helps to build selfesteem, it’s definitely beneficial for the youth. It’s also a way of connecting people of all walks of life; I believe it can change PNG society,” Towalila says.

Adult classes are from 6pm to 7pm every Thursday and kids’ classes are every Sunday from 3pm to 4pm.
