- Photos by Known You Seed

MANY FLOWER FARMERS only grow single stemmed sunflowers as a staple crop to supply the cut flower and tourism industry. Lots of people love them and some get crazy about sunflowers in general.

But did you know that there are a lot of types of sunflowers? One of it is the multi-branching sunflowers that give multiple flowers of sunflowers, its name is Sara! Sara is a variety from Known You Seed Philippines, Inc. This variety will give you a display of many blooms from left to right and all directions! The way this type makes it more adorable is aside from its multiple flowers, it grows with lots of branches, literally a lot! Once the main flower has dried off, an army of blooms from one branch to another will grow from the leaf nodes, keeping the blooms coming.

If size is not an issue for you, go for multiple flower sunflowers like Sara. It is one of the best multi-branching plants that will give you a display of many blooms for a long time. It is very good for a prolonged garden or farm display, it can provide you with a natural curtain of blooming sunflowers for one month and half to two months! Strong wind is not a problem for this variety, it is not prone to wind damage or breaking since Sara can only grow up to maximum of 5 feet tall with a very sturdy main stem.

If you have to pick the easiest and most reliable sunflowers for the beginners and also for the pro’s, Sara is a perfect choice. Multibranching sunflower varieties like Sara will mature on fifty-five to sixty days from sowing. As mentioned, it can produce numerous blooms over a long period of time, so they don’t need to be succession-planted as frequently. On the other hand, the stems of Sara require a lot more space; they should be planted at least 18” apart. As for recommendation, Sara offers a strong sunflower that surely appeals to all kinds of people.

Fortunately, multi-headed sunflowers don’t require any special treatment compared to their single-headed counterparts. However, if you want to grow more heads, it can help to pinch the middle when they’re younger to encourage them to shoot more than one useable stem. As well as making sure they’re getting enough nutrients in the soil. Hence, they are easy to grow and easy to take care of.

Sara as the multi-branching sunflowers last for weeks to months longer than single cut sunflowers because this type keeps sprouting new stems, even if they go uncut for a week. They are a true ‘cut & come again’ flower. In multi-branched sunflowers you will find that these sunflowers produce stems that are shorter and skinnier, which makes them easier to work with in vase arrangements.

You will also appreciate the sometimes tiny palm-sized blooms that sprout, and the multiple-head blooms that you will never find with single stem varieties. Multi-branched and Single stemmed sunflowers are both beautiful; but the multiple-bloom heads are just extravagant!
