PH Hamster Owners Society celebrates anniversary by breaking barriers
On its sixth anniversary, the Philippine Hamster Owners Society (PHOS) held its third Philippine Hamster Fair at Starmall EDSA-SHAW. Collaborating with about a dozen hamster groups from all around the Philippines, PHOS celebrated a two-day Avengers-themed fair to educate hobbyists, entertain enthusiasts, and pique the attention of those who were a tad curious about hamsters.
“We really wanted to unite everyone. It’s great to see everyone cooperate and strive for a main goal, which is to promote the hobby and educate those who plan on caring for hamsters,” said PHOS Chairman Emmanuel Talucod.
Hamsters are common pets for children. Unfortunately, they’re also bought as food for snakes. PHOS’ advocacy revolves around educating people on proper hamster care and breed standards.
Caezar Vizcarra of the Circle of Hamster Owners of the Philippines (CHOP) gave a seminar on breeding techniques on the first day.
In a Hamster Show, participants from five different breeds (Syrian Longhair, Syrian Shorthair, Dwarf, and Roborovski) were judged according to standards, The tamest hamster also received an award.
Enthusiasts participated in a hamster DIY setup contest with the theme, “Pinoy Superhero” while
young kids had a blast with their pet hamsters as they joined a race. Winners received cash prizes, trophies, and hamster goodies.
prizes. They had cute pictures taken with their furry companions, alongside parrots from Majestic Wings Philippines and hedgehogs from Hamhog ng Tundo.
“What’s memorable about this event is how much we’ve made everyone happy and how we’ve touched their lives through hamsters. It’s really great to see them change their perspective on hamsters and learn more about them,” added Talucod.
