In the 1970s, the recovery of the Presa Canario breed started and by January 1990, the American Kennel Club recognized the dog under the Foundation Stock Service Program. The Perro de Presa Canario was also finally recognized by the United Kennel Club on January 1, 2003.

Rufus, our canine star for the cover, hails from a bloodline of Presa Canario dogs from the prestigiou­s Irema Curtó Kennels in Spain. They have a pedigree of dogs registered with the UKC in the US and are known worldwide for breeding traditiona­l and genuine working Perro de Presa Canario dogs.
