CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
Our own country probably needs better laws on exotic animals, not to mention commitment from hobyyists to give these animals the best of care.
The Japanese reptile market is big in Japan despite the condo lifestyle in the city, with some animals being more affordable there than in the Philippines, probably because of more lenient regulations and guidance from qualified people.
On the other hand, leopard geckos, rather common in our country, are not as affordable in Japan. One Japanese reptile breeder said, “Geckos here are quite expensive because [they are] the most popular household reptile pet. Kids, ladies, and even grandpas and grandmas would . . . keep them as pets.”
