Basilgo, umarya sa Shell Cebu chess tilt

Ginapi ng seventh ranked na si Basilgo sina Elaine Gabrido, Adelyn Bensi, Gabriel Lastimosa at Nick Amestad, bago naungusan si No. 6 seed Natori Diaz para makopo ang limang puntos sa Swiss system tournament at ikatlo sa limang stage ng regional chess circuit na itinataguyod ng Pilipinas Shell.
Nakabuntot sa kanya ang limang karibal na kapwa may 4.5 puntos, kabilang sina top seed at UC bet Chris Pondoyo, No. 3 Jane Quinanola ng University of San Jose-Recoletos, Marc Villarojo at Remegio Galenzoga III, habang may walong players ang may tangan ng apat na puntos kung kaya’t inaasahang magiging mahigpitan ang laban sa huling apat na round sa 13-16 age group.
Ang mga may apat na puntos ay sina No. 4 Jeremy Tanudra ng UC, John Paderna, Jude Aranaydo,John Cadiz, Michael Canizares, Jamon Cajeras, Rejel Perandos, at Vincent Vencer.
Kumubra rin ng limang sunod na panalo sina Peteros at Velarde para magsosyo sa liderato sa 7-12 age section ng torneo na pinangasiwaan ni Shell Social Performance and Social Investment Manager Melanie Bularan, at Shell active chess alumnus Carlo Maraat, Budget and Management Specialist II ng Department of Budget and Management Regional Office VII.
“Through this annual circuit, Shell has been helping the nation and the youth by building the values of discipline, hard work and perseverance. We have been in the country for more than a hundred years and our Shell Active Chess has been here for 24 years, that’s why the program is much older than anyone of you here today,” sambit ni Bularan.
Pinataob ng fifth-ranked na si Peteros sina Jhesrey Belano, Art Villaran, Marie Sanchez,Jervy Villarin at Glenn Bernaldez, habang nagwagi ang No. 2 na si Velarde, sina Raine Awit, Johann Bolabon,Emmanuel Cababan, Jay Perandos, at Arje Villarin. Samantala, nanguna sina Adrian dela Cruz at Vincent Balena sa senior division sa parehong 5-0 karta.
