Death penalty bill ‘ di prioridad ng Senado

Determinado ang Senado na suportahan ang mga panukalang prioridad ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Sinabi ni Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III na magiging bahagi ito ng priority legislation ng Senado sa pagsisimula kahapon ng ikalawang regular session ng 17th Congress.

Kabilang sa mga prioridad na panukala ng administrasyong Duterte ang tax reform package at ang pag- amyenda sa 1987 Constitution.

“As far as I am concerned the following are my priorities, and I have seen the priorities of other senators, plus of course, the unanticipated priority bills of the Duterte administration: the tax reform package,” sinabi ni Pimentel sa mga mamamahayag bago ang pagbubukas ng Senate session. “Of course, I will push that we study the revision of the Constitution, hindi lang ‘ yan for federalism purposes but even for the economic provisions.”

Gayunman, sinabi ng mga pinuno ng Senado na hindi kabilang sa mga prioridad ng Mataas na Kapulungan ang muling pagbuhay sa parusang kamatayan.

“I don’t see that in the radars really,” ani Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto.

Bahagya namang kumambiyo si Pimentel: “I will assure the House that we will discuss the death penalty bill. It’s not a priority bill, (but) it is in the regular course of business.”

Sa Kamara de Representantes, kabilang sa mga prioridad na panukala, ayon kay House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, ang dissolution ng “unhappy marriages”, ang pagsusulong ng federalism government, at ang Bangsamoro Basic Law.

“Admittedly, there is a sad reality about some marriages. We do not always get it right the first time around,” sabi pa ni Alvarez.
