Farm tourism isusulong sa Baguio City

HINIKAYATni Senador Cynthia Villar ang mga magsasaka sa lungsod ng Baguio na samantalahin ang Farm Tourism Law, na ayon sa kanya ay malaki ang maibibigay na pakinabang, tulad sa aspeto ng malaking kita at libreng edukasyon, at higit sa seguridad ng sapat na pagkain para sa bansa.

Ang farm tourism, ayon sa batas ay “the practice of attracting visitors and tourists to farm areas for production, educational, and recreational purposes. It involves any agricultural or fishery-based operation or activity that brings to a farm visitors, tourists, farmers, and fisherfolk, who want to be educated and trained on farming and its related activities, and provides a venue for outdoor recreation and accessible family outings.”

Sa kanyang naging pagbisita kamakailan sa Baguio, sinabi ni Villar na nasa 20 farm school na ang nabigyan ng akreditasyon ng Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) sa buong rehiyon ng Cordillera simula nang ipatupad ang tourism law.

“We started this in 2015 and we are happy that a lot of people accepted the challenge to convert their lands into farm schools.”

Ayon sa senadora, nagbibigay din ang farm tourism sa mga magsasaka ng kalamangan para sa produksiyon ng agrikultura dahil sa dagdag na kaalaman at mas maraming potensiyal na mamimili at mangangalakal para sa kanilang mga ani.

Dagdag pa niya, sa pamamagitan ng mga farm school, maaari ring makapag-aral ang mga anak ng mga magsasaka at makakuha ng edukasyon tungkol sa farm management and production, na makatutulong naman sa paglago ng industriya ng agrikultura sa bansa sa hinaharap.

Bukod dito, ang TESDA rin ang magbabayad ng matrikula ng mga magnanais magenrol sa ilalim ng programa.

“This will also provide accessibility to free education and at the same time convenience to the farmers. Small farms are very important because it feeds us,” giit ng senadora.

Nabanggit din niya ang isang pag-aaral na nagsasabing 70 porsiyento ng produktong agrikultura sa buong mundo ang nanggagaling sa maliliit na taniman. “So, if we need food security, we have to take care of small farms,” saad ni Villar. “If you declare your land as a tourist farm, it has to be accredited by the DOT. Once accredited, the department will have to include the facility on the tourist farm list, promote it, and utilize their programs,” paliwanag pa niya.
