SolGen ‘di magkokomento sa hirit ni Robredo

Dinepensahan ni Solicitor General Jose Calida ang kanyang desisyon na huwag katawanin ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa Supreme Court (SC), na umuupo bilang Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).

Kamakailan ay hiniling ng PET sa Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) na maging kinatawan ng Comelec at maghain ng komento sa petisyon ni Vice President Leni Robredo sa manual recount para ikonsiderang balido ang mga balota na 25 percent shaded. Kasalukuyang itinakda ng PET ang threshold sa 50 percent.

“As the People’s Tribune, it is the Solicitor General’s duty to present to the Presidential Electoral Tribunal the position he perceives to be in the best interest of the Republic, notwithstanding the stance of his client, specifically the COMELEC, on the issue,” paliwanag ni Calida sa isang pahayag kahapon.

Sa mga nakalipas na desisyon ng tribunal, sinabi ni Calida na “the Supreme Court acknowledged that ‘the Solicitor General may, as it has in instances, take a position adverse and contrary to that of the Government on the reasoning that it is incumbent upon him to present to the court what he considers would legally uphold the best interest of the government although it may run counter to a client’s position.”

Nitong Biyernes, naghain si Calida ng manifestation na nagdedeklara na ini-invoke ng OSG ang papel nito bilang “People’s Tribune” at hiniling sa PET na pahintulutan ang Comelec na maghain ng kanyang sariling komento sa petisyon ni Robredo.

Nagsimula ang manual recount at revision ng mga balota sa protestang inihain ni dating Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. laban kay Robredo noong Abril 2 sa SCCourt of Appeals gymnasium sa Ermita, Manila.

Ang resulta ng manual recount at revision ng mga balota sa unang tatlong lalawigan ang magdedetermina kung itutuloy ng PET ang protesta ni Marcos na sakupin ang 132,446 precincts sa 27 lalawigan at lungsod.
