DOTr at MIAA heads, idinepensa vs resign calls

Ibinasura kahapon ng mga senador ang mga panawagan ng pagbibitiw nina Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade at Manila International Aiport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eddie Monreal dahil ang aksidente sa runway noong nakaraang linggo ay hindi naman nila kontrolado.

“I would like to give both Sec. Tugade and GM Monreal the benefit of the doubt,” sinabi ni Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito.

“Let us wait for the outcome of the investigation currently being conducted before we make any conclusions,” diin niya.

Sa halip na mga pagbibitiw, sinabi ni Ejercito na dapat na maghanap ang gobyerno ng mga solusyon sa problemang bumabagabag sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Ito rin ang opinsyon ni Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, sinabi na hindi niya maaaring sisihin ang dalawang opisyal dahil sa “external factors” sa insidente.

“While I admit that this is an international embarrassment because numerous foreign tourist and passengers were stranded at the airport, I cannot solely blame Sec. Tugade and GM Monreal,” ani Gatchalian.

Hindi rin naniniwala si Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero sa “quit mentality.” “If we adopt the quit mentality how sure are we that the next one won’t start from scratch, will have a learning curve and won’t make a similar or worst mistake?” aniya.

Nais naman marinig ni Sen. Grace Poe, chair ng Senate Committee on Public Services, ang mga paliwanag ni Tugade sa usapin sa pagdaos nila ng initial inquiry sa insidente sa Agosto 29. “Our committee will hear the issue on the 29th at 9:30am. Let us see what the Secretary has to say,” ani Poe.

May sarili ring imbestigasyon ang Kamara sa Setyembre 5, ayon kay House Committee on Metro Manila Development Chairman Rep. Winston Castelo (2nd District, Quezon City). Si Committee on Transportation Chairman Cesar Sarmiento (Lone District, Catanduanes), ang nagnanais na magsagawa ng pagsisiyasat.

Hinihintay na rin ni Pangulong Duterte ang full report ng transport officials sa aircraft mishap na pumaralisa sa NAIA sa loob ng halos dalawang araw.

Pinagbabayad ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang Xiamen Airlines ng P15 milyon bilang inisyal na kabayaran sa perwisyong idinulot nito sa operasyon ng NAIA.

“Of course, inaabangan na ng Pangulo ‘yung mga report na ‘yon at yung magiging resulta,“sinabi ni Special Assistant to the President Christopher Go sa panayam sa radyo kahapon.

Sa kabila ng mga aberya, positibo ang Department of Tourism (DoT) na hindi magiging hadlang sa pagbisita ng mga turista ang nangyaring aberya sa NAIA kamakailan.
